Conducted a full accessibility audit of the Cognitopia website, evaluating conformance against WCAG 2.2 AA standards. Using a combination of automated tools and manual testing, the audit assessed key areas such as text alternatives, focus management, heading structure, color contrast, keyboard navigation, and content sequencing.
The audit identified several barriers impacting users with disabilities, particularly around focus states, improper heading hierarchies, and insufficient color contrast on interactive elements. Findings and recommendations from this audit aim to support future design improvements and enhance overall accessibility and usability for all users.
Scope
The audit focused on a comprehensive review of Cognitopia’s public-facing website. A total of 14 key pages were evaluated, including the Home page, Features page, Pricing page, Blog, Contact page, and additional core navigation paths.
Tools Used
- Apple VoiceOver
- Manual keyboard navigation testing
- Axe DevTools (Chrome Extension)
- Wave Evaluation Tool
- Silktide Accessibility Checker
Key Findings
Missing or Inconsistent Alt-Text
Several images lacked meaningful alternative text, making content inaccessible for screen reader users.
Impact
Users relying on screen readers may miss important visual context.
Poor Focus Management
Missing or invisible keyboard focus indicators on interactive elements.
Impact
Keyboard-only users may struggle to navigate or understand their location on the page.
Improper Heading Structure
Incorrect heading levels (e.g., skipping from H1 to H4) found across multiple pages.
Impact
Screen readers present page structure incorrectly, causing confusion for users.
Low Color Contrast
Text and button contrast ratios failed WCAG 2.2 AA minimum contrast requirements.
Impact
Users with low vision or color blindness may find text unreadable.
Missing Skip to Content Links
No “skip to main content” links provided for keyboard users.
Impact
ncreases effort and time for keyboard-only navigation, impacting usability.
Next Steps
The findings from this audit will serve as a foundation for future design and development improvements. A full redesign phase is planned, during which the recommended accessibility updates will be implemented.
Following the redesign, a follow-up audit is recommended to validate improvements and ensure ongoing compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
